Adiyen wants the attention of all the Ramanuja Sambandhis and dasas of bhagwat Ramanuja towards an issue.

We all know that Nammalvar (Sri Sathakop Suri) predicted the advent of Ramanuja Swami in Thiruvaaimozhi (5.2). All the verses of the decade talks about ‘bhavisyat Acharya’ swami Ramanujacharya only. Nammalvar had himself installed the ‘archa vigrah’ of ‘Bhavisyat Acharya’ at his birth place.

Sri Nammazhwar predicted the avatara of Sri Ramanujar, (Not Sri Chaitanya Maha prabhu) To commemorate this event, special Thirumanjanam festival happens every year in February (Masi – Visakam star) in Thirukkurukoor (Swamy Nammazhwar’s Avatara sthalam).

1. MISCHIEF:

ISKCON has released a book on Thiruvaaimozhi, written by Sridhar Srinivas Das; which claims that predictions in divine book is about CHAITANYA MAHAPRABHU, HIS ASSOCIATES AND PRABHUPAD. The motives of the writer to write commentary on Divya Prabandham and force his own meanings is questionable.

The author argues that Sri Manwala Mamunigal himself said in his AH vyakhyanam (part 2, churnika 91) that the prediction may mean Various Acharyas. However, there is nothing like that in the churnika he referred. It talks about the famous Verses of Srimad Bhagwatam (11th canto) which talks about the advent of Azhwars along the various rivers in South India.

Here I am giving word by word translation, check if is anyway close to his claims:

Sūtra 91

Tamiļ māmuņi tikku śaraņyam enravarkaļāle kvacittu enru,

ivar āvirbhāvam kaliyum kețum sūcitam

Śabdārtha or Verbal Translation

Tamiļ – Tamil Language, māmuni – great saint ie Sage Agastya, tikku – direction, śaraņyam – place of refuge, enravarkaļale – those, who are stating, kvacittu – for each and every body, enru – as such, ivar – āvirbhāvam — his incarnation, kaliyum – ills of kali yuga, kețum – shall and will be destroyed, pole – like sūcitam – a note (informed)

Translation –

Maharși puts forth that, Saint Agastya, who propagated the Tamil would be a place of refuge. It is indeed noteworthy that in every place, it nullified Kaliyuga.

In Ramanuja Avayay prabhaavam, all the azhwars and Acharyas are said to be in body of Ramanujacharya swami. Nammalvar being his head, Tirumangai Alwar being his feets, Lokacharya Swami being lines his feet etc.

The author has cunningly extended to mean ‘all the future Acharyas’ and thus comes to conclusion the the verses are prediction of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, his 5 associates and Prabhupad.

The book was launched by HH Jayaptaka Swami (incharge of India) and even have his forewords.

Despite our Acharyas warning him about the grave sin, he keeps on his agenda.

While they appear to glorify Bhagwat Ramanujacharya Swami, here is how they reveal their plans and instructs all the members of ISKCON:

Our proposition is to the Ramanujacarya followers because they are very, very strong, especially in South India they are prominent, purifying all of the world actually. It is mentioned in the Bhagavatam that when pure devotees appear in South India they then maintain the pure principles of bhakti. So there are many followers of Ramanujacarya. So our proposition to them is that now your worship of the Lord as Ramanujacarya. All his followers need to follow His latest incarnation. That was many hundreds of years ago that he appeared as Ramanujacarya. Now He has appeared in Navadvip in the lasts incarnation as Nityananda Prabhu. So you should all actually follow Nityananda Prabhu. And He taught all to chant: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. And worship Radha and Krishna. The proposition – evidence is there from sastra. Vedic evidence is there. So if you are living in South India then you can convert all the Ramanujas to become followers of Mahaprabhu. Even if they worship Laxmi Narayan they will go back to Godhead very quickly because of that by the mercy of Panca-Tattva. Ramanuja Mahasayi Ki Jai.

They boldly preach it with smartness. first approach senior devotees as if u r big follower of Ramanuj, form personal relationships with them. Then tell the young devotees, “Hey!! Your seniors agree to this.they appreciate”.

He goes on to say:

Devotees of Ramanuja Acarya all go back to Vaikuntha after a long time but here in Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mission in Navadvip Dham Panca-Tattva … can be done in one lifetime. Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Srila Prabhupada Ki Jai!

3. FAKE STORIES TO DEGRADE THE DIVINITY OF RAMANUJACHARYA AND UPLIFT THE DIVITY OF CHAITANYA AND PRABHUPAD:

They have cooked some filthy stories to help fulfilling their mission. As per them, Ramanuj was reborn in Navdwip and did upasana of Chaitnya Mahaprabhu.

And today they have also dared to put an e-book (“Mayapur is My Place of Worship”),
through their website for promoting their upcoming temple in Mayapur TOVP Temple Of Vedic Planetarium, Kolkatta. ( https://tovp.org/mayapur-is-my-place-of-worship-book/ ), which has a part of this story “Sri Jagannatha educating Yatiraja about Mayapur and also warning Bhagavad Ramanuja Swamy about its glory”.

Bhaktivinode Thakur mentions in the Navadvip Dham Mahatmya that actually Jagannath spoke to him. He said, “Anyway leave things as they are. But you should go and visit Mayapura – very special abode, Navadvip – My very favoured abode. You should go there. Then he woke up in Navadvip that next day. Then Jagannath spoke to him and said, “This is My eternal abode that has descended by the influence of My inconceivable potency. There is no place of maya here. This is the spiritual realm here. Here I appeared in the form of Lord Gauranga. I am teaching pure devotional service.”

Ramanujacarya said, “I have heard this name of Gauranga. It is there in scripture but it is kind of secret. Now You are speaking about it I can understand where it is all coming from. There are so many statements in the sastra about Gauranga’s appearance but it is all kept secret. Now I can understand what all this means.”

Then the Lord appeared to him as his worshipable Lords Laxmi narayan. So he was in ecstasy. Then Lord Narayan – they disappeared and They became Gauranga. He saw this beautiful form as Lord Gauranga. He said, “This is that form.” So he said, “Now I understand what the sastras are saying. It happens in Kali Yuga. So now I am going to go out and preach pure unalloyed devotional service to Krishna in these different mellows of Vrindavan. Just order me, just order me, I am ready to go conquer.”

Lord Jagannath said, “No, no, no. When I come I will do that. For the time being you cultivate and preach up to dasya rasa. Within your heart you can worship Me as your lover but you preach up to dasya rasa. When I come then I will present this.” He said, “I must be here when you perform Your pastimes.” So the Lord gave him the benediction that he would be here. So he appeared as Sri Ananta in Gauranga’s pastimes.

The story goes on to say that, Ramanuja in his next birth as ananta in Mayapur, danced madly in his marriage ceremony. Thus, he elevated his devotion.

Can we digest such portrayal of jagadguru Ramanujacharya? Is it not the duty of all Ramanuja dasas to condemn these stories which are being spread to somehow brainwash and convert Sri vaishnavas? Their target is those Sri Vaishnavas who are not much familiar to sampradayam due to studies and staying outside in some engineering colleges.

4. Demeaning Narayan Ashtakshari Mahamantra:

Their another cunning tactics is to demean Narayan Mahamantra which is praized everywhere in Vedas and Dravida Vedas. As per them, the mantra is only for material benifits and not applicable in Kaliyuga. Only ‘Hare Krishna’ Mahamantra is the mantra for kaliyuga.

Fine, you chant your mantra but why are speaking nonsense about the mantra of an  established sampradayam? Ramanuja swami gave us this mantra. How can a sampradayam 200 years old can speak such nonsense about a sampradayam whose lineage goes back to 5000 years old?

श्रीमद भागवतम महात्म्य भाग 1

सूत गोस्वामी कहते हैं की जब सुकृत इकठ्ठा होते हैं तो कभी-कभी चलते फिरते भी विवेक प्राप्त हो जाते हैं।

कर्नाटक में तुंगभद्रा नदी के निकट एक गाँव था। उस गाँव में आत्मदेव (आत्मा चासो देवः आत्मदेवः) नाम के एक ब्राह्मण थे और उनकी पत्नी का नाम था धुंधुली। आत्मा पर जब अज्ञान का धुंध होगा तो व्यक्ति कभी सुखी नहीं हो सकता। इसलिए मीरा कहती हैं:

घूँघट के पट खोल रे, तोहे पिया मिलेंगे।

आत्मदेव के दुःख का कारण था पुत्र का न होना। वास्तव में हम अपना दुःख खुद बटोरते हैं। एक बार वो कहीं से कथा कहकर लौट रहे थे की लोगों का ऐसा वार्तालाप सुना जिसने उनके दुःख को कुरेद दिया। लोग कह रहे थे, “आत्मदेव पंडित तो अच्छा है पर है तो निपुत्तर ही। निपुत्तर का चेहरा देखना भी पाप ही है”। हाताश और निराश आत्मदेव शरीर परित्याग करने की मंशा से जंगल चले गए जहाँ उनकी भेंट एक सन्यासी से हुयी। उन्होंने से सन्यासी से पुत्र की याचना की।

सन्यासी ने पूछा, “पुत्र क्यों चाहिए”।
“सुख के लिये”।
“संसार का इतिहास ऐसा नहीं है की किसी को पुत्र से सुख हुआ हो। उदाहरण के लिये महाराज सागर के ७००० पुत्र उन्हें सुख नहीं दे सके। भौतिक विषयों से सुख प्राप्त करने की चेष्टा चलनी से दूध पिने के समान है”।
काहू न कोउ सुख दुख कर दाता। निज कृत कर्म भोग सबु भ्राता।।.
मनुष्य अपने अच्छे कर्मों के फलस्वरूप सुख एवं बुरे कर्मों के फलस्वरूप दुःख पता है। कोई किसी को सुख या दुःख नहीं देता। अगर आनंद चाहते हो तो चित को आनंदमय परमात्मा से जोड़ो। ‘पद, पैसा, प्रतिष्ठा और परिवार’ असत और निरानंद हैं और इनसे कभी आनंद की प्राप्ति नहीं हो सकती। इनसे सुख का अनुभव करना ऐसे ही हैं जैसे कुत्ता को हड्डी से और ऊंट को काँटा चबाने से आनंद मिलता है। वास्तव में है भूल, पर कहता है tasteful. कोई ऐसा सुख नहीं जिसके भीतर दुःख ढंका हुआ न हो।

व्यक्ति जन्म से ही ४ दुःख लेकर आता है- रोग, शोक, बुढ़ापा और मौत। पत्नी भी तो ये ४ दुःख लेकर आती है, इसलिए कुल जोड़कर दुःख हो गए ८। पुत्र हुआ तो कुल मिलाकर १२ दुःख हो गए। यदि पुत्रवधू आयी तो कुल मिलाकर हो गए १६। इसलिए अगर शाश्वत सुख चाहते हो तो आनंदस्वरूप परमात्मा से संबंध जोड़ो।

पतंजलि ने पाँच क्लेश बताये हैं:- अविद्या, अस्मिता (मैं), राग (अपने से), द्वेष (दूसरे से) और अग्निभेष (मरने का भय)। हरिः हरति पापानि। भगवान सभी पापों और पाप जनित दुखों को हर लेते हैं। सुख हमें बाहर से मिलता है जबकि आनंद अन्दर से।
मोहग्रस्त होने के कारण आत्मदेव को सन्यासी की बात समझ में नहीं आयी। जब वो पुत्र की माँग पे अड़े रहे तो सन्यासी ने आम का फल दिया। धुन्धुकी को यह सोचकर रातभर नींद नहीं आयी कि यदि फल खाने से शरीर भारी हो गया तो चलना-फिरना दुष्कर हो जायेगा और यदि जन्म से पहले अटक गया तो मर ही जाऊँगी। इस डर के मारे उसने फल गाय को खिला दिया। उसकी छोटी बहन जो गर्भवती थी और ६ पुत्र पहले से थे उसने उससे अपना अगले संतान को रख लेने का प्रस्ताव दिया। उसने वादे अनुरूप अपना बेटा चुप-चाप धुन्धुकी को दे दिया। उसका नाम हुआ धुंधकारी। उधर गौशाले में गैया ने भी बच्चे को जन्म दिया जिसका शरीर मानव का था पर कर्ण गाय का, इसलिए उसका नाम हुआ गोकर्ण।

आत्मदेव तो बड़े प्रसन्न थे पर बाप बनने के साथ संताप भी आया। धुंधकारी बड़ा उत्पाती हुआ। वह जुआ खेलने लगा, मद्यपान करने लगा। प्रतिदिन आत्मदेव के पास शिकायतें आनी लगी आत्मदेव को सन्यासी की सीख याद आने लगी। हालाँकि गोकर्ण बड़े संस्कार-संपन्न थे। (गोकर्णः पण्डितो ज्ञानी धुन्धुकारी महाखलः)। जब आत्मदेव ने धुंधकारी को समझाना चाहा तो उसने पिता पर हाथ चला दिया। पुत्र से पीटने के बाद आत्मदेव एकांत में, गोशाला में बैठकर रो रहे थे।

गोकर्ण की उनपर नजर पड़ी। गोकर्ण ने पिता को समझाया, “आपके दुःख का कारण पुत्र नहीं, पुत्र-मोह है। आपने पुत्र से जो नाता जोड़ लिया वही दुःख का कारण है। ममता, मेरापन, मैं पिता और मेरा पुत्र; यही दुःख का कारण है। ममता शरीर से सुरु होती है, फिर परिवार पर आती है। देह से सुरु होने वाली ममता पहले पत्नी में, फिर पुत्र में आती है। हमारा सबसे पहला संबंध तो परमात्मा से है। जब शरीर नहीं था, पत्नी नहीं थी, पुत्र नहीं आया था तब हमारा भगवान से संबंध था। उस भगवान से संबंध जोड़िए।”
ममता तु न गयी मेरो मन से
पाके केश जन्म के साथी, ज्योति गयी नयनन से।
टूटे बसन, बचन नहीं निकलत; शोभा गयी मुखन से।।
ममता तु न गयी मेरो मन से।
सुख-दुःख वास्तव में है नहीं पर ममता के कारण हमें सुख-दुःख अनुभव होता है। जैसे चिता तो रोज ही जलती है पर जबतक यह ज्ञान नहीं होता कि चिता में जलने वाला शरीर मेरे संबंधी का था, तब तक आंसू नहीं आते। यदि कोई दुश्मन मरा हो तो अति-सुख का अनुभव होता है। ममता के कारण ही धुंधकारी ने आत्मदेव को मारा था वरना सारा समाज तो उन्हें आदर देता था। बाप को बेटे से ममता है इसीलिए बेटा बाप की इज्जत नहीं करता। धुंधकारी ने आत्मदेव को नहीं बल्कि आत्मदेव ने धुंधकारी को पकड़ रखा था।

तब सन्यासी की बात समझ में नहीं आयी थी क्योंकि आत्मा पर मोह और ममता की बाधा थी। पुत्र से पीटने के बाद विवेक उत्पन्न हुआ और ममता हट गयी। जब मोह का पर्दा हट गया तो गोकर्ण की बात समझ में आ गयी।

जबतक ममता नहीं हटेगी, तबतक शास्त्र के उपदेस समझ में नहीं आयेंगे। अज्ञान से ममता उत्पन्न होती है और ममता से दुःख। विवेक का उदय होने पर ममता हट जाती है और भक्ति का उदय होता है। बिना ममता गए भक्ति नहीं आती। मनुष्य जब थकता है तो भगवान की ओर झुकता है। माया ईश्वर की शक्ति है जिसका काम ही है हमें ठोकर देते रहना। कभी किसी ठोकर से विवेक उत्पन्न हो गया तो ममता हट जाएगी और जीवन आनंदमय हो जायेगा।

आत्मदेव ने वन-प्रस्थान किया और भागवतम के दशम स्कंध का ध्यान करते हुए शरीर त्याग दिया। आत्मदेव में कर्मधारय समास है- “आत्मा चासो देवः आत्मदेवः”; अर्थात आत्मा देव है, पुत्र, पत्नी या रिश्तेदार नहीं। आत्मा केवल परमात्मा का है।

एक बार मैं गया के पास एक गाँव से श्राद्ध करा कर लौट रहा था। कुछ ही दूर गया था कि एक नौजवान पैरों पर गिरा गया और कहने लगा, “बाबा वापस चलिए। अभी आप जिस का श्राद्ध करा कर लौट रहे हैं, मैं उसका बेटा हूँ।” जब मैंने उसके बेटा होने पर भी सही समय पर उपस्थित न होने के कारण उसे डांट सुनाई तो कहने लगा, “बाबा! मैं अमेरिका मैं रहता हूँ। जब भी मैं कहता था कि भारत में ही रहकर नौकरी करूँगा तो डांटने लगते, “जब मैं सबको सुनाकर कहता हूँ कि मेरा बेटा अमेरिका में रहता है तो सीना गर्व से चौड़ा हो जाता है। जब अमेरिका में ही रहने की बात करता तो कहते कि अमेरिका में किसको सुनाऊंगा। अमेरिका जाकर तो अपने गरीब होने का एहसास होता है”। सुख और दुःख सापेक्ष है। कैसा सुख मिला कि बेटा से श्राद्ध भी न करा सके। ये आत्मा का सुख नहीं है। ये सुख तो अहंकार का है। केवल परमात्मा ही आत्मा को आनंद दे सकता है। सुख बाहर से मिलता है जबकि आनंद अन्दर से।

मोह निशा सब सोवनिहरा। देखत सपन अनेक प्रकारा।
यह जग जामिनी जागहिं जोगी। परमारथी प्रपंच बियोगी।।
जानिअ तबहीं जीव जग जागा। जब सब विषय बिलास बिरागा।।

आत्मदेव के चले जाने के बाद केवल माँ-बेटे ही रह गए। धुंधकारी बड़ा हुआ और चरित्रहीन हो गया। माँ के गहने बेचने लगा और माँ मना करती तो उसे पीटने भी लगा। माँ दुःख के मारे कुएं में कूद कर मर गयी। मुर्खता, कुसंग और जवानी इन तीनों के जोड़ में धुंधकारी हत्या, डकैती और लूट कर धन इकट्ठा करने लगा और पाँच-पाँच वैश्यायों को घर लाकर बैठा दिया। एक दिन जब लूट में बड़ा हाथ लगा तो उन वैश्याओं ने धुंधकारी को हाथ-पैर रस्सी से बाँधकर और आग से मार-मार कर प्राण निकाल दिया और उसे जमीन में गाड़कर और धन आपस में बाँटकर भाग गयी। धुंधकारी बड़ी बेरहमी से मरा और मरने के बाद भयंकर ब्रह्मपिसाच बना। उसके आतंक से गाँव के गाँव वीरान हो गए।

कई दिन बीतने पर गोकर्ण अपनी जन्मभूमि घुमने आये। सायंकाल में सान्ध्योपासना कर ही रहे थे मेघ-गर्जना सुनाई पड़ी, पर आकाश में मेघ तो थे ही नहीं। मेघ की तरह गर्जना करने वाला , शेर कि दहाड़ने वाला और हाथी की तरह चिन्घारने वाला कौन है? समझ गए कि कोई अदृश्य आत्मा की पुकार है। गायत्री मंत्र पढ़कर जल छींटा तो धुंधकारी में बोलने कि शक्ति आ गयी। “मैं तुम्हारे कान देख पहचान गया। मैं तुम्हारा भाई धुंधकारी हूँ। मैंने गिन-गिनकर पाप किये जिसका परिणाम है की आज भूख लगती है लेकिन खा नहीं सकता, प्यास सताती है लेकिन पानी भी नहीं पी सकता, नींद आती है लेकिन सो नहीं सकता। बेचैन होकर घूमता रहता हूँ। भाई! हमारा उद्धार करो। गोकर्ण रात भर गायत्री मंत्र का जप करते रहे, वेद-वेदांत सुनाते रहे पर कोई असर नहीं हुआ। गया, बदरीनाथ और अनेक तीर्थों में जाकर पिंड दे आये पर कोई असर नहीं हुआ।

व्याकुल गोकर्ण ने सूर्य देव का उपस्थान किया। गोकर्ण ने कहा, “श्रीमद भागवत का सप्ताह करो गोकर्ण”। उन्होंने सारी विधि बतायी। अषाढ़ महीने शुक्ल-पक्ष नवमी से पूर्णिमा तक भागवत सप्ताह का आयोजन किया। संयोग से बगल में बाँस का टुकड़ा गिरा था और उसमें चींटी लगने से छेद भी था। प्रेत ने उसी में अपने को समाहित कर लिया।

शरीर तीन प्रकार के होते हैं। स्थूल शरीर २४ तत्त्वों से बना है जिसका विवेचन गीता के १५वें अध्याय में हुआ है। सूक्ष्म शरीर १७ तत्त्वों से बना होता है जो आत्मा के साथ होता है। तीसरा है कारण शरीर जो अति-सूक्ष्म और प्रलय काल में होता है। जैसे पेड़ स्थूल है, गुठली कारण और फल सूक्ष्म। जैसे गुठली से ही आम का पेड़ बनता है उसी तरह कारण शरीर से ही सृष्टी के बाद स्थूल शरीर बनता है। गुठली जड़ है जबकि पेड़ चेतन। प्रलय काल में आत्मा भी लगभग अचेतन अवस्था में होता है। भगवान दया से द्रवित होकर स्थूल शरीर देते हैं ताकि जीवात्मा मुक्ति के लिये साधना कर सके (सा वै मोक्ष्यार्थ चिंतकः)।

पहला दिन का पाठ हुआ तो एक गाँठ फटी। लोग समझ न पाए कि क्या आवाज हुयी। दूसरे दिन दूसरी गाँठ फटी और सातवें दिन होते-होते तो बाँस फट्टी के रूप में बदल गया। दिव्य रूप में कोई प्रकट हुआजो किसी के पहचान में नहीं आया। गोकर्ण जी ने सारी बात बतायी। “ ये मेरा भाई था। महा-दुष्कर्म करने वाला, पिशाच बना था। श्रीमद भागवत की कृपा से पिशाच की योनी से छूटकर स्वर्ग चला गया”।

लोगों ने कहा, “महाराज! भागवत तो हमने भी ७ दिन सुना फिर हमारा कुछ क्यों नहीं हुआ”? गोकर्ण जी कहा, “आप उस लगन और श्रद्धा से नहीं सुन पाए जो गोकर्ण के पास थी”। श्रावण महीने, शुक्ल-पक्ष नवमी से पूर्णिमा तक दूबारा सप्ताह हुआ गोकर्ण जी की कृपा से, ग्रामवासियों के आत्मा के कल्याण के लिये। श्रीमद भागवत की कथा निर्मोह होकर सुनने से ग्रामवासियों का भी कल्याण हुआ, सबकी मुक्ति हो गयी।

हम सभी अपने कानों से एक समान ही श्रवण करते हैं पर मन द्वारा मनन और भक्ति सबका अलग-अलग होता है। वक्ता तो सबको एक समान ही सुनाता है पर श्रोताओं के मन और भक्ति भाव एक समान नहीं होता; सबके जन्म, संस्कार, संगत और ग्राह्य बुद्धि भी भिन्न-भिन्न होते हैं। जैसे वर्षा तो एक-समान ही होती है पर किसी खेत में बढ़िया फसल होती है और किसी में खराब। इसलिए कथा के अंत में हर व्यक्ति अलग-अलग निष्कर्ष के साथ निकलता है।

पौरोहित्यम च अथर्वेदिकम कार्यं……………..तथा च विष्णुपुराणे ‘पौरोहित्यम शांतिकपौष्टिकानी राज्ञामअथर्ववेदेन कारयेद..|Atharvedi shuld be called for Purohit karma since the Purohit karmas like Rajyabhishek etc. has been described in Atharv-Veda.As said in Vishnu Puran, “Purohit works in Kings works should be done by Atharv-Vedi ony. Brahmatva in Vedas is also based on this only”.

Are Vedic Gods different from Puranic Gods?

Let’s see Sayan bhasya for the Vedic mantras which declare ‘Vishnu as supreme’ and ‘abode of Vishnu as supreme’. Sayan clearly says that Vishnu here is one mentioned in Itihaas and Purana.

As per the Solar calendar, this month is called Dhanur masam. In Dhanur masam, the rashi(constellation) is dhanur. The crossing of the Sun from one nakshatra (rashi) to another is called Sankranti. The Sun leaves the Dhanur nakshatra and enters the Makar nakshatra on the day called Makar Sankranti.

As per the Lunar calendar it’s called Marghali masam or Marg-shirsh maasam. The full Moon and one star are taken as the point of reference for calculating the dates in the Lunar calendar. In this month, the raashi or Nakshatram (Star) is the Margshirsham .

BG(10.35): Masaaanam marghshirshoham

मासानां मार्गशीर्षोऽहमृतूनां कुसुमाकरः।।10.35।।

Of months, I am Margasira (Nov-Dec). And of seasons I am the season of flowers.

This is the month of harvest i.e. harvest reaches home. Season too is very conjurial. This is the month of Pious dharmaas. People perform dharma-anusthaan in the month. In this month, the Sattva Guna is most dominant.

Supreme Lord Narayana although shares the creation responsibility with Brahma, and with Rudra the responsibility of dissolution of the Universe, but He doesn’t give the duty of protection to anyone. He himself is the protector as Vishnu. That’s why Krishna says that among all the months, He is Maargshirsh.

This month is the Brahma-muhurt of Devas, as our one year is one day for them; our uttarayan being their day and dakshinayan being their night. This month is also cold, so people of Gokula are not coming to disturb the divine leela of Gopikas with Krishna.

‘Maarg’ means way. Karma, gyaan and Bhakti are the ways. In all these ways one relies on their own

power of Karma, Gyaan or Bhakti to achieve God. But the best way is Bhagwaan himself, the safest and the surest way. That’s why he is ‘maarg-shirsh’ i.e. topmost maarg. This vrat is also “Marghshirsh vratam”.

In general examples we see the goal and the means to be different. For example, to reach a College, the goal is the College, and the means are some means of transport like bus or bike etc. But, to achieve God, God himself is the means. Just like for a crying child, The Upey(goal) is the Mother and the Upaay (means) too is the Mother only. He/She wants to get to the mother’s lap and cries. How would he/she go into the Mother’s lap? Mother herself picks and places him/her in her lap. Take another example. To call a cow we show him grass and when it comes we feed grass itself. In case of param Purusharth too, God is goal and he himself is the means to reach him.

Brahm means: bruhyati, brahmyati iti brahm. That which is big and makes everyone who reaches him equally big.

Goda wanted to reach Krishna. She asked her guru and father, Sr Vishnuchitt Swami. He recommended her to do the vratam that gopis did in Dwapar to get Krishna.

Thus, in Sri Goda’s mind, Lord Sri Vatpatrashaayi became Krishna, Sri Villiputtur became Gokul, and her friends became Gopikas. Krishna had special love for a special gopi: Nappinai (Nila devi). She was daughter of his maternal uncle. Krishna wanted to marry her but he had to tame 7 bulls to marry her.

Goda could actually smell the fragnance of Krishna and gopikas i.e. makhan and ghee. That much was she immersed in the bhavana. Goda devi became a gopika in her bhavana. Her language even changed to that of a gopika, although she being born in Brahmin family.

The 30 verses are divided into group of 5 verses each. Each group of verses carries very deep meaning.

Gopikas got Krishna only for certain period but Sri Goda got his eternal association. Although She simply imitated,  but still she got greater grace. If we too imitate her, we too would get even higher grace. There is no limit of his grace. Since our Aandal is with him to say, “Hey! They are my sons and daughters.”

She sung the Thiruppavai and gave the essence of the Vedas. 
Details of vrata:

1) Take Snanam(Bath) before sunrise

2) Perform Anusthanam(Rituals).

3) Take Sripad Tirtham of Acharyas and Chant the guru-parampara mantra.

4) Do dhyanam of Narayana mahamantra.

5) Aradhana(Worship)

6) Offer havish (pongal)

7) Sing the Thirupavai

8) Offer Aarati

9) Sattumurai (final two verses)

10) Spend the month singing glory of the lord.

She enjoyed, and shared our Lord with all the children like us. Like mom feeds her children, Goda too feeds us, her children the nectar of her songs.

श्रीमद भागवत पुराण ( 11.5)

कृतादिषु प्रजा राजन् कलाविच्छन्ति सम्भवम् । 
कलौ खलु भविष्यन्ति नारायणपरायणाः ॥ ३८॥ 
क्वचित्क्वचिन्महाराज द्रविडेषु च भूरिशः । 
ताम्रपर्णी नदी यत्र कृतमाला पयस्विनी ॥ ३९॥ 
कावेरी च महापुण्या प्रतीची च महानदी । 
ये पिबन्ति जलं तासां मनुजा मनुजेश्वर । 
प्रायो भक्ता भगवति वासुदेवेऽमलाशयाः ॥ ४०॥

भावार्थ: कलियुग में द्रविड़ देश में स्थित ताम्रपार्नी, वैगै, पयस्विनी (पालारु), कावेरी आदि प्रसिद्ध एवं पवित्र महानदियों के तट पर कई भगवद्भक्तों का अवतार होगा, जिनके द्वारा भक्ति का व्यापक प्रचार और प्रसार होगा|

कलियुग के ४० दिन बीतने पे सठकोप सूरी आलवार (नाम्माल्वार) का अवतरण हुआ| आलवार श्री विष्वक्सेन के अवतार थे| वो यह सोचते हुए विलाप करने लगे कि हाय! कितना अभागा हूँ मैं| ४० दिन पहले आता तो साक्षात् भगवान के दर्शन हो जाते| इस वेदना से उनके ह्रदय में तड़पन बढ़ गया, ह्रदय द्रवित हो गया और द्रविड़ में भक्ति उत्पन्न हुयी:

उत्पन्ना द्रविडे साहं वृद्धिं कर्णाटके गता । क्वचित्क्वचिन्महाराष्ट्रे गुर्जरे जीर्णतां गता ॥
(श्रीमद भागवतम महात्म्य 1. 48)

द्रविड़ में १२ आलवारों का अवतार हुआ| आलवार का अर्थ है भगवत-प्रेम में निमग्न रहना| आलवारों के काव्य-रचनाओं (सूक्तियों) को दिव्य-प्रबंध कहते हैं| इन्हें द्रविड़ वेद या द्रविड़ोपनिषद भी कहा जाता है| कालांतर में भक्ति कि यह धारा नाथ मुनि, रामानुज और रामानंद जैसे महा-आचार्यों से सिंचित होकर जनसामान्य तक सर्व-सुलभ हुआ| विशिष्टाद्वैत का प्रमुख सिद्धांत है- भगवान का सर्ववस्तु स्वरूपी होना| “सियाराममय सब जग जानी”| कबीर भी कहते हैं:

भक्ति जन्मी द्रविड़ में, उत्तर लाये रामानंद|

गोदा का अविर्भाव एक छोटी शिशु के रूप में पूज्य विष्णुचित्त के नन्दवन में, एक तुलसी पौधे की छाया में हुआ| अषाढ़ मास के पूर्वफाल्गुनी नक्षत्र में अयोनिजा गोदा प्रकट हुयीं| यथावत् विष्णुचित्त बड़े सबेरे फूल चुनने अपने नन्दवन आए| चारों तरफ का वातावरण निस्तब्ध, सुन्दर एवं मनमोहक था| आलवार ने एक तुलसी पौधे की छाया में एक अद्भुत दृश्य देखा| उस स्थान पर पवित्र दीप्ति दिखाई दी, चारों तरफ प्रकाश फैल रहा था| निकट पहुँचाने पे उन्होंने वहाँ एक लावण्यमयी कन्या को देखा|
निस्संतान विष्णुचित्त उनकी अतुल सुन्दरता, दिव्य तेज और कान्ति देख वे आनंद विभोर हो गए|

विष्णुचित्त ने बड़े प्रेम से गोदा का पालन-पोषण किया| उन्होंने बचपन से ही गोदा को भगवान की दिव्य लीलाओं का रसास्वादन कराया गया था और इस प्रकार गोदा का मधुर बचपन भगवत-प्रेम में लीन रहा| श्री विष्णुचित्त हर रोज़ वटपत्रशायी भगवान के लिए सुघंदित पुष्पों की माला बनाते थे| गोदा भी अपने पिताजी के साथ रोज़ फुलवारी जातीं, पुष्प चुनतीं और फूलमालाएं गुथती| मालाएँ गूंथते विष्णुचित्त गोदा को भगवान के कल्याण-गुणों को और उनकी मधुर लीला का पान कराते| परमभक्त विष्णुचित्त के संरक्षण में भगवान के प्रति प्रेम और भक्ति तीव्र होती जाती थी|

गोदा भगवान को ही अपना पति मानने लगी| भगवान के योग्य और प्रिय बनना ही उनके जीवन का लक्ष्य हो गया| उन्हें बराबर यह चिंता होने लगी कि भगवान ने उसे दर्शन क्यों नहीं दिए|

एक दिन पिता की अनुपस्थिति में गोदा ने भगवान वटपत्रशायी के निमित्त टोकरी में रखी सुन्दर और मनमोहक मालाएँ निकालकर स्वयं पहन लिया| अपने कुंतल और गले में मालाओं को सजाकर उन्होंने खुद को आईने में देखा और सामने खड़ी होकर सोचने लगी – “अरे ! कितनी सुन्दर माला है | मै खुद इस माला के प्रति आकर्षित हो रही है | क्या यह माला पहनकर मै भगवान के साथ योग्य हूँ या अयोग्य हूँ”? अपनी सुन्दरता को निहारकर वह बहुत आह्लादित हुयीं और उन्हें दृढ विश्वास हो गया कि वह भगवान रंगनाथ के अनुकूल और पूर्ण रूप से प्रिय लगेंगी| तुरंत उन्होंने पुष्पमालाओं को उतारकर पूर्ववत् टोकरी में रख दिया| कई दिनों तक यह क्रम चलता रहा लेकिन पिता इससे अनभिज्ञ रहे|

श्री विष्णुचित्त पुष्पमालाओं को यथावत् ले जाकर मंदिर में भगवान को समर्पित करते थे| मालाओं की अनुपम सुन्दरता और सुगंध को पाकर अर्चकों ने समझा की यह आलवार की पवित्र भक्ति के कारण है|

रोज की तरह, जब एक दिन गोदा पुष्पमालाओं से सजकर, भगवान की प्रेम-धारा में बहते हुए, उसके रसोस्वादन में मग्न रही, तभी श्री विष्णुचित्त वहाँ पहुँच गए| पिता ने देखा – गोदा भगवान के भोग्य वस्तु को (असमर्पित माला) स्वयं पहनकर उसका रसास्वादन कर रही थी | यह देखकर
विष्णुचित्त बहुत व्याकुल और निराश हुए और तदन्तर उन्होंने यह माला भगवान को अर्पण नहीं किया| गोदा के इस व्यवहार से वह अत्यंत दुखी हुए| उन्होंने विचार किया कि न जाने कितने दिनों से यह कन्या इस तरह का कार्य कर रही होगी| इससे भी दुखी हुयी और उनके आँखों में आंसूओं की धारा बहने लगी| विष्णुचित्त ने उन्हें मीठे स्वर आश्वासन और उपदेश किया|

विष्णुचित्त ने दुबारा नन्दवन से फूल चुनकर पुनः मालाएँ गुंथीं और भगवान को समर्पित किया| रोज की तरह मालाओं में महक और सुन्दरता का अनुभव नहीं हुआ| उन्होंने सोचा कि कहीं गोदा के उक्त कार्य के कारण भगवान नाराज तो नहीं हो गए? मानसिक चिंता में लेटे-लेटे उनकी आँख लग गयी कि तभी उनकी आँखें चौंधिया गयीं| अद्भुत प्रकाश और अनुपम सुन्दरता का दृश्य है| इस प्रकार स्वप्न में भगवान के दिव्य दर्शन पाकर वह आनंद विभोर हो गए|भगवान ने उनसे पूछा कि उन्होंने आज सुगंधरहित पुष्पमालाएं अर्पित की| आलवार क्षमा याचना करने लगे तो भगवान ने कहा, “गोदा की घृत एवं भुक्त मालाएँ ही मुझे प्रिय हैं| मैं उन्हीं मालाओं की प्रतीक्षा में हूँ| अपनी घृत पुष्प-मालाएँ और वाचिक-मालाएँ समर्पित करने के लिए ही गोदा का अवतार हुआ है”| इतने में आलवार की नींद खुल गयी और वह चकित होकर चरों ओर देखने लगे| उनके मन में आनंद की लहरें उठनें लगीं|

इस आनंद प्रदायक स्वप्न पर विचार करते हुए उन्होंने गोदा को जगाकर उसे अपने स्वप्न से अवगत कराया| यथावत वे और नंदवन जाकर फूल चुनकर लाये और उनकी मालाएँ गूंथकर गोदा के सामने रखा और उन्हें कहा कि वो इन्हें धारण करके वापस कर दें| गोदा आनंद से पुलकित हो गयीं और उनके आँखों में प्रेमाश्रु की धारा बहने लगी| गोदा ने मालाएँ पहनीं और उन्हें उतारकर प्रेम व श्रद्धा सहित आलवार के हाथों में दे दिया| अब उन मालाओं की नयी सुन्दरता और सुगंध पाकर गोदा के प्रति आलवार की श्रद्धि की श्रीवृद्धि हुई| उन्होंने प्रेम से यह कहकर यह आशीर्वाद दिया, “तुम मेरी आण्डाल् हो”| आण्डाल् अर्थात उज्जीवित करने वाली|

आगे तो इसका क्रम बन गया| विष्णुचित्त मालाएँ गूंथकर गोदा के कुंतल और गले में सजाते और फिर उनके हाथों से मालायें लेकर भगवान वटपत्रशायी को समर्पित करते| उस वक्त से गोदा का नाम ‘शुडिक्कादुत्त नाच्चियर’ या ‘अमुक्तमाल्यादा’ हो गया|

उम्र के साथ-साथ आण्डाल् की भक्ति की भावना तीव्र प्रणय-भावना में बदल गयी| पिता ने उन्हें गोपियों द्वारा किया गया कात्यायनी व्रत करने का उपदेश किया| अब तो आण्डाल (गोदा) के लिए अपना स्थान श्रीविल्लिपुत्तूर ही व्रज भूमि हो गया, भगवान वटपत्रशायी श्री कृष्ण हो गए और उनकी सखियाँ गोपियाँ| श्री कृष्ण के विरह में द्वापर की गोपियाँ जिस प्रकार विरह का अनुभव करती थीं, उसी प्रकार का अनुभव गोदा भी करने लगीं| भाव-समाधि में उन्होंने तिरुप्पावै दिव्य-प्रबंध की रचना की| व्रत का उद्देश्य लोक कल्याण के अलावा यह उद्देश्य था श्री रंगनाथ उनके पति बनें|

गोदा जी की श्री रंगनाथ से विवाह की कथा ‘नाच्चियार थिरुमोरी’ में है जिसमें १४३ सूक्तियाँ हैं|

भावार्थ

संत कवयित्री श्री आण्डाल का अवतरण श्रीविल्लिपुत्तूर (पुदुवई) में हुआ था, जो कि  राजहंसों से आच्छादित चावल के खेतों तथा जलाशयों से घिरा हुआ था | हम सब  श्री आण्डाल का वंदन करते हैं जिन्होंने अपने मधुर स्वर में गाये हुए गीतों की माला को श्री भगवान को अर्पित करी, तथा अपनी पहनी हुई उच्छिष्ट माला को भी उन्हें अर्पित किया |

श्रीविल्लिपुत्तूर के खेत राजहंसों से भरे हुए हैं |  जब हम लोग साधारण खेतों को देखते हैं, तो हमें तो केवल बतख-बगुले ही दीखते हैं, जो अपने स्वभावानुरूप विचरण करते एवं मछलियों का शिकार करते रहते हैं | लेकिन श्रीविल्लिपुत्तूर के खेत विलक्षण हैं | वे सुन्दर हंसों से भरे हुए हैं | हंसों की विशेषता होती है की वे दूध और पानी को अलग कर सकते हैं | 

हम जीव ही हंस हैं और ये शरीर क्षेत्र| हम स्वयं भी क्षेत्र हैं और परमात्मा हंस|

(इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय क्षेत्रमित्यभिधीयते, गीता 13.२ ) |

ये सब केवल सामान्य हंस नहीं, बल्कि परमहंस हैं, जैसे श्री रामानुज, श्री वरवर महामुनि, श्री वेदांत देशिक | हंस बेहद सुंदरता पूर्ण ढंग से चलते हैं | गोदा देवी इन हंसों को सुंदरता पूर्ण ढंग से चलना सिखाती हैं, अतः उन्हें “अन्नवयळ् पुदुवइ आण्डाळ ” इस नाम से पुकारा गया है |

उन्होंने रंगनाथ भगवान को कई सुन्दर गीतों की माला(जैसे तिरुप्पवई) अर्पित करी | इसे अलावा उन्होंने स्वयं एक पुष्पमाला पहनी और उस पहनी हुई उच्छिष्ट माला को रंगनाथ भगवान् को अर्पित किया |

उन्होंने हम जीवआत्माओ को समझाया है, ” तुम स्वयं एक माला बन जाओ और स्वयं को श्री भगवान को अर्पित कर दो | अपने मुख से उनके नामों का संकीर्तन करो | उनको किसी के दबाव में नहीं, बल्कि स्वतः प्रेम से अर्पित करो | ”

हमें श्री गोदाम्बा के नामों का भजन करना चाहिए |
